SUPER SUNDAY SENDOFF

Morning everyone. How are you doing this morning? Its an early morning for me today... actually haven't been to bed yet. Didn't get to go with my mom yesterday. so I am pretty bummed out. I got a couple of emails asking if I was ok because my blogs seem a bit "rough". Well I am sorry if they come off stiff or whatnot. I am not ok. I am going through some rough personal issues, so just bare with me and life will be straight again eventually. (I thought I was doing a pretty good job of not letting you all know LOL.)

Ok, I have more frugal tips for you today. Trying to retain the title of "The Frugal Mom". Today they are for a room that I normally spend alot of time in... yep you guessed it- The Kitchen! I figure everyone can use a little bit of help now and then... So here is your Frugal bits for today!

Frugal Kitchen Tips

1. Nearly everything can be cut in half -- use only half a dryer softener sheet, half the recommended amount of detergent, half a cotton ball, etc. Try it on anything you can think of - if it works, you save money, if it doesn't, what do you lose?

The same idea goes for quick dinners. If you're putting together, for example, Hamburger Helper (or another "instant" meal), consider using a 1/2 pound of meat per box (or just make up 2 boxes at a time, with a full pound of meat). Most of us actually get far more protein in a day than we need, so cutting back to a 1/2 pound of meat doesn't hurt any of us.

How about instant drink mixes? If you're buying mixes that don't have the sugar added (which, by the way, is cheaper than buying the mixes with sugar already in them), think seriously about how much sugar you mix in. Do you REALLY need to use a full cup of sugar with that small packet of flavoring? Or could you cut it back to 1/3 or 1/2 cup and decrease the amount of sugar your children are getting in each serving?

The next time you're simply following directions on any grocery item, take a moment to evaluate the claim before you do as it says. You may save yourself some money!

2. Disposing of grease and fat from foods. I save the jars and lids that I get whenever I purchase tomato sauce and mayonnaise. When I have bacon drippings or old oil from fried foods, I pour the fat into these jars. When the jar gets full, I put the top back on and put the jar in the trash. This will prevent your drains from being clogged with this oil and keep your trash cans from getting messy inside.

3. Save plastic milk containers, fill with water and freeze. Use in camper iceboxes or coolers. Also these can be used to freeze colored water or juices in for later use in a punch bowl.

4. To avoid tears when peeling onions, slice first, then slip the bands of skin off.

5. Use an egg slicer to slice apples or mushrooms.

6. Leftover pancake batter makes good fried onion rings. Separate and let soak in batter for fifteen minutes. Fry in hot oil.

7. Don’t throw out leftover coffee. Freeze it in icecube trays, and when you don’t want to make an entire pot, you can get your cubes out of the freezer and pop them in the microwave.

8. Dry Mustard will remove onion odors from your hands or cutting board. Rub in, then rinse off.

9. Use plain baking soda or salt as a fire extinguisher.

10. Put rice in your salt shaker to keep the salt from getting hard. **Thank you Lisa!

11. Remove odors from your fridge by placing a vanilla extract soaked cotton ball inside. Another popular method is to leave a cup of baking soda or a slice of lemon in the fridge at all times.

12. Cleaning behind your refrigerator will keep it running longer and more efficiently. Another fridge cleaning tip: Make sure the unit is level. An unlevel refrigerator works harder than it needs to and wastes energy.

13. Store plastic wrap in refrigerator - it will prevent it from sticking.

14. A good trick when you go away on vacation is to place a baggie with a few ice cubes in the freezer. If a power failure occurs while you are gone and the food thaws and then refreezes you will know about it when you get home.

15. Use a powder puff to dust flour on rolling pins, pastry boards and cookie sheets. Store puff in a margarine tub with a small amount of flour for quick dusting jobs.

16. Leftover Safety - If food has been contaminated with germs from a person's mouth, it should be tossed. For instance saving baby food when you have fed the baby from the jar is hazardous.

17. You can reheat small portions of leftovers in the same pan. Wrap individually in foil and place in enough water to cover the bottom of the pan.

18. When converting your favorite recipe for microwave cooking reduce the liquid by one-fourth. Liquid does not evaporate in a microwave as much as it does in a conventional oven.

19. To save on electric and water only run your dishwasher when full. When adding dishes take a handful of baking soda and sprinkle the dishes and bottom of dishwasher to absorb odors. When you run the dishwasher there is no need to add detergent to the first cylce receptacle only to the 2nd one that stays shut until the second cycle starts. The baking soda will take the place of the detergent in the first cycle.

20. When you have a spill in your oven, sprinkle some salt on it right away. Then when the oven cools wipe it off.

21. Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces--no more stains.

22. Transfer your jelly to a small plastic squeeze bottle--no more messy, sticky jars or knives. This also works well for homemade salad dressing.

23. To aid in washing dishes, add a tablespoon of baking soda to your soapy water--it softens hands while cutting through grease.

24. Save your store-bought-bread bags and ties--they make perfect storage bags for homemade bread. (Don't turn them inside out. The labels are painted on the out sides of the bags with lead-based paint.)

25. If you have problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

Ok, time to make something wonderful! And if you have been with me long enough, you know I have a purse fetish LOL! So I saw this instructional and I was like OMG I have so used placemats to do this! So I wanted to share with you. If you find some tapestry mats clearanced after the holidays (or anyday) that have a cute picture, consider picking some up and doing this craft! (Remember you can also make a casserole dish cover with them too!)

Craft Idea of the Day: Placemat Purse

1. Fold in half so that the long side is folded. Put the two edges right next to each other and sew a very short zigzag stitch down as far as your machine can go. There will probably be about 1-2 inches not sewn, this is ok. Do this on both sides.

2. Turn inside out. It should be a rectangular shape with a fold on the bottom. Fold one side down so that the seam lays against the bottom fold. This will form a triangle at the bottom of the seam. You want to sew across this from one side to another about 2 inches from the tip. The distance from one side to the other is going to be how wide your purse is.

3. Turn your purse right side out and take the tip of the triangle and push the corner of the purse out and tack the tip of the triangle down to the bottom of the purse. I use a zigzag stitch to do this and just go back and forth a few times to hold it down. It's important to make sure that the edges are pulled out as far as they can go and you sew this tightly because it hold your purse open so the corners don't fold in.

4. I like to use a matching napkin to make the straps but ribbons are a lot easier way to go. To make the straps cut the napkin into 2 strips about 5' wide. On this purse I used 2 colors so the strips only had to be about 2-3'. Using one color: fold the rough edges in and then fold in half so the 2 folded edges meet. It's much easier if you use an iron for this part. You may need to play around with this so you get the width that you like. Sew along each edge. I've also used a different color thread and/or a decorative stitch to add a cool effect to the strap.
For two tone strap: Fold the rough edges in making it as wide as you want the strap. Make sure both colors are the exact same width. Sew along edges to hold them together.

5. To attach the strap it looks best if you are using a place mat that has 2 layers sewn together on the sides. You can open the edge up with a seam ripper, sandwich the strap inside and sew closed again. If you do not have this option you can just use a zig zag stitch to attach it to the inside of the purse.

6. I also sewed a pocket for a cell phone in this one. Just cut out a a rectangle of fabric out of a napkin , fold over the edges and sew it into the purse. I hand sewed it to the inside layer so it wouldn't show on the outside.

7. I also got a magnetic snap from the store and added this so the purse will close on the top. You can buy these at most sewing/fabric stores for a couple dollars.

8. Put your stuff in and you're ready to go.

You can also experiment with different purse straps sold at craft stores. Have fun with it and make it your own. I get compliments on mine everywhere I go and I've had many friends have me make them one or ask me how. Its a great easy and very cheap way to make a fun purse. Enjoy!

Okie dokie kids, its the last day for TERRIFIC TOMATOES. Have you enjoyed it? I hope so. I will be contemplating the next theme to present to you throughout the day, but If you have an idea, then please post a comment and let me know. Now I may have posted some of these facts this week, but here is a compiled list of some tasty trivia about tomatoes!

Some interesting tomato facts:

Tomatoes were first introduced to Europeans by explorers returning from the New World. In about 700 AD, the Aztecs began to cultivate tomatoes and it was through them that the rest of the world got tomatoes.

Today China is the largest producer of tomatoes. This nation accounts for 16% of all tomatoes grown around the world.

A lot of people don’t realize that tomatoes are actually a fruit and not a vegetable. Although classified as a fruit, tomatoes have nutrients found in both vegetables and fruit.

Tomatoes are a natural antioxidant that can help prevent a number of diseases, including heart disease and some cancers.

Did you know that if you make a habit of eating tomatoes in the form of tomato sauce, ketchup, or tomato paste, you can reduce your chances of getting cancer? In fact, men can reduce their risk for developing prostate cancer by up to 43%.

If you cook tomatoes in oil you can help to increase your body’s natural absorption of the nutrients in tomatoes. Another of the interesting tomato facts is that cooking tomatoes in oil will also increase the plasma lycopene in them.

Tomatoes are thought to be very beneficial for helping to treat aggressive cancers, even if they have spread to other areas of the body. Although tomatoes are helpful, this is a condition that needs medical supervision so you should always let your doctor decide on your treatment.

Tomatoes are among the foods that contain the highest amount of lycopene, the concentration is increased when tomatoes are processed into other foods, such as ketchup, tomato sauce and soup. Other foods that have a high concentration of lycopene include tomato juice, pink grapefruit and vegetable soups.

The lycopene contained in tomato products is thought to help prevent the development of cervical and breast cancer in women. It has also been known to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in lung cancer.

The lycopene in tomatoes is also known to help prevent such conditions as heart disease, plus it is very good for the eyes. Age related issues with the eyes might be prevented if you eat enough tomato products throughout your life.

Tomatoes are an excellent source of potassium, calcium, and vitamin A and C. All of these are important nutrients needed for optimal health.

Among the tomato facts include the fact that tomatoes can also be very good for the skin. When you eat enough foods that contain cooked tomatoes, what you will get is protection against UV damage. Studies have shown that when you eat tomato products, you would have 33% more protection from sunburn.

Tomatoes can protect your skin; researchers now believe that the lycopene in cooked tomatoes help to naturalize free radicals on the skin caused by UV light; therefore they can help to prevent skin cancer. Although you will get some protection from the sun by eating tomato products, it is not enough by itself. You will also need to use sunscreen for maximum protection.

Now what week would be complete without a pie or something sweet?? I have both to finish out your week! A savory pie and a sweet cake. Eat & Enjoy!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

Good morning everyone and a HAPPY Father’s Day to all my male readers out there… especially MY DAD! Love you Daddy! So how is everyone doing this sultry Sunday morning? Me… can’t complain- I woke up with air in my lungs, a roof over my head, and my family all around… so I’m good! And I have lots to share with you today, so let's get started.

OK now, yesterday, I managed to get some crafting done. And boy let me tell ya…. I think you will like it!

Intriducing… the Monopoly money bags!! Aren’t they super spiffy?? I attached all the bills together and then covered them with vinyl and proceeded like normal totes. Although when it was just the sides covered in vinyl, I have to admit, they would have made really cool place mats too LOL! I am going to take one of them and make it into a “Monopoly package” with a matching makeup bag, etc. and make a notebook out of the cards, etc LOL. I think it will be cool! What do you think?

These are super jumbo puzzle pieces and I spray painted them. Once they were dry I drew around the edges with some special glue and then sprinkled different colored glitters on it. Pretty sparkly huh? I am thinking that I might make them into magnets or package tags or… well I just don’t know.

These are some more cell pouches that I made, but since I am out of snaps, I used velcro. I think they are pretty neat really. All these materials were scraps from the green crate (as were the inside fabrics of those purses). I am slowing working my way through that crate LOL! I’m running out of time, so I better get cracking huh? Anyway, the roses and skulls material is the ones I used for making my DB’s bedroom set. He said he is waiting for more (bedroom sets) LOL! Might be an idea for the Christmas Countdown challenge… not sure yet. Gonna start my list probably next week. I’m sure that crate will diminish quickly once I start the Christmas Countdown LOL!

Seeing that I have a wretched landlord who has not yet done anything about my possessed stove, I am cooking meals that are either stovetop, crockpot, grill, or just eating the premade meals I froze in the freezer. I also made a couple of casseroles at mom’s and brought them home too, but those are already gone LOL! Anyway, I had a whole buzzard and I threw that in the crockpot yesterday morning with some Lipton’s vegetable soup mix and a can of Rotel. Seasoned the chicken with the normal S/P/G and then also used some cumin and allspice. Let that puppy cook on low for a few hours and it was falling apart moist LITERALLY! I paired that with some noodles with veggies in them (and I put some of the stewed Rotel on top the noodles) and then some buttered garlic Italian bread I had and voila! A mouthwatering no fuss super That everyone devoured!

What’s a dinner without dessert? Here is our colossal cookie! Super chocolate chunk and oh so… sweet!!! TOO SWEET for me actually. It was given to us the other day and it was the perfect treat… for THEM! I had one bite, it hurt my teeth, and I said oh no! LOL But I have no fear they will make it disappear LOL. Its cute though… very cute!

I ended my day with a rescue. Aren’t those the sweetest little faces you have ever seen? See, as many of you know, I am a member of several different yahoo groups for various things. Frugal Living, Cooking, freecycling, etc. Well I guess, on one group, I have been deemed the “cat lady” LOL. One of the members of my local freecycle group called me pleading for my help. She said the momma cat was hit by a car and these kittens were out on the side of the road (still with the momma) and she couldn’t catch them so they didn’t get hurt or die. So at 7:30 last night, I drove over there and was able to get the kittens to come to me. I started crying at the condition of these poor things. She couldn’t keep them as she owns pits and they would “not be pleased” let’s just say. I had no choice… so home with me they came. I know I know… crazy! They look maybe 2-3 months old, so malnourished, and COVERED in fleas! So the first thing was they got washed and sprayed with flea stuff (cause I am allergic to fleas to boot LOL. I know an animal owner/lover allergic to a common pet problem- go figure! Talk about irony!). They were really not digging that, but the fleas just started falling off, so that was good. I can’t get them to eat yet, and I am praying they were not still nursing! Otherwise, HEY MOM… I MIGHT need some of that kitten formula you have! My inside cats were NOT happy with me last night, and I am hoping things get a little better should these kittens stay. So I have been loving on my cats all morning to try to ease their “hurt feelings” LOL! We have named the kittens Gizmo (cause his ears are bigger than his head LOL) and Miracle (because it’s a miracle she is alive and quite frankly will be a miracle if she survives). Say hello everybody! DH just got all teary eyed and said that I was a good hearted person... cats and kids I rescue them all! LOL! He's just odd LOL!

Now I had found an article that, by reading the title, led me to believe it would be a great Frugal tips to share with you all here. BUT… after further reading (past the title and jibberish) I am not real impressed and have come to the conclusion that the author is not necessarily giving the best advice. I’m gonna share the article and then MY humble O’s… and lets test just how frugal she REALLY is…

5 Ways to Cut the Fat From Your Grocery Bill

Kerry K. Taylor
Friday, June 4, 2010

Eating is an expensive habit. And if you're anything like me, then food probably consumes a significant portion of your budget. On average, American families spend $9,478 a year on food alone -- that's 13.3 percent of their total household budgets, according to a recent survey by the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics.

To help you get a grip on this tasty but often expensive cost-of-living, here are five ways to cut the fat from your grocery bill.

1. Make a grocery list and check it twice. Going through your kitchen before hitting the supermarket is free, and planning ahead can fatten your wallet by preventing expensive impulse buys. You might even save on gas by being organized because you won't need to make a second shopping trip to buy those forgotten items.- OK… not gonna argue her point here, because I do the same thing. I keep a running list of what I need, how much of it I need, etc. AND I take at LEAST 4-6 hours to plan a grocery shopping spree… planning DOES help!

2. Stop clipping worthless coupons. Take a good look at the grocery coupons you're clipping before getting excited about the deal. Many coupons offer deals on highly packaged foods low in nutrition and high in unpronounceable ingredients. Skipping the worthless coupons and opting to pay a little bit more for whole foods may be a better deal for your health in the long run.- OK… BIG NO NO here! While I agree that whole foods ARE better for you, not everyone has a ton of money to eat just whole organic foods… some do depend on some prepackaged items. PLUS you can also find coupons for produce and such… they are usually called wine tags. AND you can also take that package of whatever you got for just 19 cents after your “worthless” coupon and turn it into maybe a part/component to a very healthy meal! It just calls for a little creativity! IMHO, NO coupon is WORTHLESS!!

3. Watch the price scanner. Mistakes on price scans are common at the grocery store and can cost you additional dollars. A Consumer Reports survey found that 6 percent of respondents were overcharged at the grocery checkout, and no particular chain stood out as more or less accurate. Watching while your grocery prices scan and verifying their accuracy at check-out can save you money and may even score you free food -- many grocery chains will give you the item for free if it scans at the wrong price, but it's up to you to spy the error.- Another good point here… and also be aware of the store’s price scan policies! Some have it where you get the item free if it scans wrong, some give you the item free AND cash back on your order…. SOOOO it can pay to be super-hyper vigilant on your register!

4. Buy generic items over big brand names. Save a huge 10 to 50 percent on every shopping trip by switching your brand name buys for generic items. It costs big bucks to market brand name products, and you're paying for that expense when you buy a food item with a recognizable label. Compare many generic items to the brand name equivalent and you'll find that the brands are not necessarily better than their less-advertised alternatives.- Ok I really dislike when people write like this! They try to make it sound like you can ONLY buy generics in order to save money, which is SO not true! UGH! Sometimes, if you Clip those coupons and compare prices (especially if your stores double or triple coupons like mine does), its actually far cheaper to buy BRAND NAME items!!!! About 75% of the stuff I buy is brand name… and ya know why? Cause I’m a SMART COUPON SHOPPER! (Oh it frustrates me so bad! Sorry… was about to go all soap-boxie!)

5. Skip the cans, buy dried beans in bulk. Why are you buying beans canned in captivity? Buying dried beans in bulk and soaking them overnight is a frugal way to add protein to your diet without paying for the high cost of meat. Besides, dried beans are extremely cheap and expand when soaked, so your family gets more meal for every dining dollar spent by forgoing the canned variety.- Again, this is a SEMI-good point. A lot of times, the bulk dry beans ARE cheaper… again UNLESS YOU HAVE A COUPON! If you can get your Gebhart pinto beans at 79 cents a bag or 19 cents a can… which one will you pick??

Finding simple ways to cut your everyday food expenses takes a bit of practice, but the payoff can be huge. Keeping track of your budget can also help you save money on all your other living expenses.

This author has a few valid points, but I think that a vital key to her article is missing. COMMON SENSE. A truly frugal person will know to cut the coupons, which can add up to some serious savings. A truly frugal person will know that by planning/preparation and paying attention, you can score some major bargains. A truly frugal person will know that repurposing items, when possible, will help to save money, reduce clutter, and be unique. So who do you think is the truly frugal one here?

Ok let’s get crafty! Now my mom called me the bag lady once in once of her comments after a day of tote making, and since I made more yesterday… well maybe it should be a “specialty” of mine. So I am gonna show you how to make another bag! “Gift bags are often the last step when giving a gift for Father's Day or a birthday. But they also add a significant cost to what you have already spent. Would it not be a relief save those extra dollars on paper or a bag that will be crumpled and tossed aside in seconds? Now you can make your own reusable gift bag for free. All you need are common items you already have, like the Sunday comics and an empty cereal box. Here's how:

Craft Idea of the Day: Cereal Box Gift Bags

What You Need:

Cereal box, or other box, into which the gift(s) will fit
Sunday comics section from the newspaper
Glue stick
School Glue
Scissors
Plastic grocery bag
Colored straws or leftover ribbon

Instructions:

1. Choose an empty cereal box (or any box) and cut off the top flaps. Trim the box shorter if desired, leaving it at least 2 inches higher than the gift will be inside.

2. Take the Sunday comics and neatly wrap the bottom and sides of the box. Secure with glue or tape.

3. Trim the top edge of comic paper so that it is about one inch higher than the top opening of the box.

4. Carefully fold the comic paper over the edge of the box so that the cardboard is neatly covered. Secure inside with glue.

5. To make handles for the gift bag, you have two options:

Option A: Plastic Straws
Cut two lengths of about 6 inches from plastic grocery bag handles. Cut colored drinking straws (wash and dry if you are reusing them) into shorter pieces. Thread the straw piece onto the plastic handles. Cut two small, index card sized pieces of scrap cardboard. Staple each end of the handle to the cardboard. Using school glue or strong tape, fix the cardboard to the inside of the top edge of the box, so that the handle is up.

Option B: Ribbon
Cut two lengths of about 6 inches of leftover ribbon. Punch holes in the sides of the box. Thread the ribbon through the holes and knot the ends of the ribbon to secure handles. If knots are too small to keep handles secure, staple ends of ribbon scrap cardboard and glue inside as described in option A.

6. Cut one long rectangle of comic paper that is slightly smaller than the area of the bottom plus two larger sides of the box. Use this sheet to line the inside of the box. Use a glue stick to secure the top edges with glue.

7. To make mock tissue paper, cut one or two large plain squares of plastic from grocery bags, avoiding the printed areas. Note: White plastic usually looks more like tissue paper than plastic from colored bags.

The advantages of these reusable gift bags are many. They better for your wallet and the environment. You can be relieved to avoid the cost of disposable wrapping and perhaps have more money to spend on the gift itself. Even if you haven't bought the gift yet, you can make this gift bag ahead of time if you know the size of gift you will get or make. And if you keep the bag in the family, whether it is a birthday, Father's Day, or other holiday, you have a gift bag for your next occasion that is ready to go.”

Time to talk some food! I hope you have enjoyed our journey to Hawaii this week. I hope that I have represented the people’s food the best I can based on the information I could find. I am gonna close this week with some bread. You normally see flavored breads around the holidays, but it is very commonplace to see flavored breads at Luaus at any time of year. Banana bread is very often served at Luaus. But another bread also served is this tasty treat, made with the freshest island ingredients, is Mango bread. What a “sweet” way to wrap up this food week, eh?

Mangoes are one of the best sources of Betacarotene, Quercetin and Astragalin. These are powerful antioxidants that neutralize free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells and lead to heart disease, cancer, premature aging and degenerative diseases. One small mango provides a quarter of your recommended daily allowance for vitamin C, nearly two thirds of your daily quota for vitamin A, good amounts of vitamin E and fiber. They also contain vitamin K, phosphorus and magnesium. Mangoes are particularly rich in potassium which can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure.

Mangoes also contain pectin, a soluble dietary fiber, which has been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels. Recently, scientists at The Institute for Food Research, discovered that a fragment released from pectin binds to, and inhibits galectin 3, a protein that plays a role in all stages of cancer progression. Other population studies, including the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer, have identified a strong link between eating lots of fiber and a lower risk of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. Mangoes are a considered a ‘high volume’ food which means you get a lot of food for a relatively small amount of calories – one mango contains around 135 calories. However, they are quite high in natural sugar with one mango containing around 30g. So keep that in mind when you try this tasty loaf of golden goodness!

Mango Bread

A recipe for mango bread using fresh mangos and macadamia nuts.

Ingredients:

2 cups flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
½ teaspoon salt
1½ cups sugar
3 eggs
½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup melted butter
2 cups partly mashed, partly diced mangos
½ cup chopped macadamia nuts

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two loaf pans. Combine all dry ingredients.

Beat eggs.

Add oil and butter and beat for approximately 2 minutes. Add dry ingredients and mangoes. Add nuts.

Bake 45-55 minutes.

Alright everyone, I am gonna get off of here and find something to do to occupy my mind- which obviously has too much time to think sometimes LOL! I will probably go check on the kittens and see if I can get them to eat, and then maybe do some crafts after I call my Dad (I doubt he is awake yet LOL). I hope all the dad’s out there have a GREAT day and I will see you again in the morning! Until tomorrow… HUGS!

WELCOME TO MY HUKILAU

Morning everybody! How are you doing this scorching beginning of the week? How many of you have those Garfield mugs out filled with Java that says “I hate Mondays”?? LMAO! (A Hukilau is a way of fishing invented by the ancient Hawaiians. A Hukilau is also known to local Hawaiians as a festive beach gathering... for those wondering about the title LOL).

OK so I was crafting my little self crazy yesterday… so much that I started to lose my mojo and had to switch gears to keep it flowing! Let’s get started so you can see some of the funky things I made.

Remember I said the DB and DH had some traditional BBQing man suds? LOL… well I managed to save a few of the bottle caps. TADA! Beer bottle Cap earrings (from the Bud Light Lime collection LMAO). Its actually a very pretty green on the cap and labels. I managed to save a few of the bottles too… which I am thinking some lime green (or whatever green I can find) gem rocks inside and a cool shade would make an awesome lamp! I might just have to scout around!

Now this is for the serious gamer LOL! I think these would be cute if you have a “game” room or a “library” in your home or as a gift for the Scrabble enthusiast… presenting the Scrabble tile drink coasters! Notice how all the words are “drink” related? Cool, isn’t it? This is a cool project if your precious little ones managed to run off with some of your tiles and render your game useless without them. Or maybe you lost some in a move or when you threw the box at your DH cause he was aggravating the tar out of you because he wanted to play the word AIN’T… LOL!

Then of course, the Scrabble “geek” is definitely gonna need a pair of monogram earrings to sport around during tournaments, game night, etc. LOL! I thought these were cool, even though I broke an awesome seam ripper trying to make the dang little holes in the tiles because I couldn’t find a small enough drill bit LOL! So after doing the coasters, these are the letters I had doubles of, so that’s the ones I started with. I am gonna make rounds to thrift stores, Freecycling, etc and see if anyone has some more scrabble parts that need a good home. I also took some of the tiles and hot glued them onto the backs of flat earring posts and made Scrabble push pins for cork board use!

Ever seen a keyboard disassembled like this before? Its quite easy really. This was a very old keyboard that I had packed in a box that didn’t work and had a few broken parts. So I took it apart and popped all the keys out of it. I have a few ideas for this little dinosaur… but first I have to get all the annoying tabs broken from the middles. And when you have CTS in both hands, it gets a little tiresome and painful! LOL but…

Before I got major cramps in my hands and wrists, I managed to whip out some “Computer Tech Savvy” Earrings from some of the keys. You have a pair that says Home & End, Delete & Insert, Page Up & Page Down. I think they are pretty funky!

Then from some more of the old keyboard parts, I made DD a magnet for her board… notice what the keys spell out? Yep… BAND! Hey I had to keep with the theme of her room LOL! She was loving it when she finally realized it was there LOL!

Speaking of magnets, do you have any of those old “used-up-but-to-cute-to-throw-away” gift cards? I do… I have tons. What better way to keep them without them becoming clutter than to make them into magnets! I simply mounted them on a sheet of magnet and trimmed around the edge. Now I know it is not Christmas time yet, but they were the first one I took out of the “junk box”. Yes I have a junk box LOL… it’s a box that I have been tossing things into that I think I can use in crafting… little figurines, ornaments, buttons, cards, game pieces, and etc. like these old GC’S! LOL! I have all kinds of treasures in my junk box! OMG I so just thought of a name for it MY TREASURE CHEST!!!!!! OMG LOVING IT! I have to decorate it real fancy like! OMG or get a wooden “chest” and paint and decorate it from the Hobby store! OH FUN FUN!

Here we have a small little pocket scratch book. I used key rings but I don’t like how big they are so I either need to add more paper or change the rings. However it would be a cute addition to the poker bag I started or the lotto bag I already made. Its very useful in multiple situations LOL!

OK, so I had the second Friskies bag to use right? Well I COULD have made another tote bag… but I opted for a shopping bag. I think this would be so cute to take like to Petsmart and have them look at it in awe as I request all my kitty goodies be put in there to save the environment from further plastic trash! I love seeing people's reactions to things that you don’t see everyday… especially things that I make! LMAO!

Ok, so I started to lose my mojo after the cat food shopping bag. I don’t know why. Maybe because I had been sitting at the table all day crafting and my brain hurt. Maybe because I was frustrated that I didn’t have a few parts to do some of the other crafts I wanted to do. Or just maybe I was tired of recycling and wanted something different. See, I told you, with my ADHD I have to jump around and NOT stay with the same thing for long or else I get very bored and only bad comes from boredom! SO I figured maybe if I tried changing what I was focusing on, I would get back in the groove…

Sure enough it worked! I saw some scraps laying on the table and I had inspiration! Remember, Madison’s Sweet 16 is coming up soon, so I need to get busy getting everything together for her party! White with black music notes and blue accents is the theme, remember? I saw blue bias tape and scrap triangles of the material I did her room in and am doing her party decorations in… IDEA!!! You know those plastic pennant banners that you can buy for like $8 at the store and they rip and fall apart because they are cheaply made? Well I cut out the triangles to be the same size and sewed them into the bias tape and Voila! A $2 fabric pennant banner matching the rest of the decorations that is less likely to tear and rip! And I saved about $6 EACH too! I like being frugal! I was quite proud of myself for this creation and DD was totally diggin’ it too!

These little blue bags I got as a 2 pack at the Dollar Tree. I have been kind of a freak buying stuff in party colors here and there and seeing what I can come up with LOL! So I saw these blue bags one day and said there has GOT to be something I can do with them for the party. So tonight I started playing with the scraps and folding them like homemade bias tape and I started thinking of how I embellish towels. Why couldn’t I do that to these bags??? I undid part of the side seam and fastened the fabric onto each side of the bag. Cute favor bags for all the guests were the result. Now I could either go buy a few more bags or save a few bucks and make some my own if I have some blue fabric. I don’t think I do though, so I will have to do some super digging to see. Either way I think they are cute!

I also got all the remaining glasses for the centerpieces stickered up and filled with the black and white gem rocks.I got the ones with the blue birthday garland and the blue roses completed and only need 2 of the silver cascades and music notes to finish those and then all of the centerpieces will be complete. I stopped crafting because the DD wanted to study her driver’s education book and ask me questions, so instead I was jotting down party notes and things I wanted to do relating to the party (like decorations, food preps, etc. ) while she studied. I was actually feeling quite proud of myself because, remember that list I said I made Saturday and didn’t touch…. Well I got everything but 2 things done on it AND I actually got 3 extra things done that weren’t even ON the list! A very productive day in my mind!

So, has all this commotion made you even the least bit crafty? Yea? COOL! Well let me tell you, I have a neat little project I am bringing you today! Now if you know me, you know I am a big “cause” supporter… well I am focusing today on the Breast Cancer cause. Now the first time I saw this I was taken aback… BUT when you really think about the reason behind this project, its really cool! SO I am gonna bring you this nifty recycling cause related craft AND some of the comments off the CraftBits website so you can see…

Craft Idea of the Day: Bra Purse

Materials:

Old bra
Ribbons fringing
Hot glue or craft glue
Scissors

Directions:

These bags have been made famous by their use to promote awareness of Breast Cancer.

And to carry on with that awareness I have used my mothers bra's to make the bra projects on this site.

This bra purse is made with a lightweight Lycra bra a padded bra would provide you with more stability, obviously the bigger the bra cup the bigger the purse.

Start by removing the straps from the cups.

You can keep the cups together with most bras, but it will depend on the bra you are using. If you separate the cups you will simply glue them back together along the wire line.

Glue the cups together to form the pouch part of the purse. This bra was slightly open cupped (deep plunge line) so I just glued up the side to form a deeper pouch.

Glue the straps back on to form the handles, these can be short or long depending on your bag style. I used the actual bra straps to keep the purse "Bra Looking" but you could swap this for a cord or ribbon. Just attach them to the top of the bra where the straps would normally sit.

If you are using a Strapless bra then just glue the handles into the inside edge of the cup.

Embellish the handbag by gluing on trims, ribbons and sequins to your desired style.

You can add a little or a lot.

And remember Breast Cancer is important so check each lump and each bump no matter how old or young you are and get a mammogram regularly. Early detection is the key to survival.

Comments:

I've made a couple of these already ~ a white one and a royal blue one, both of which have pink lace and ribbons and the pink BC awareness ribbon on them. I think they are adorable and the person who came up with the idea is a genius! People shouldn't be anymore offended by these than by the naked women or peeing Calvin bumper stickers on cars. Hooray for BC awareness!!

This has got to be one of the most awesome ways I have ever seen to honor or remember a loved one who has been impacted by breast cancer. I'm going to share this with all my RFL buddies.

Look out Thrift stores and yard sales, I am bra purse hunting.=) clever idea!

ok yes first look i thought oh my goodness why would anyone want to do this. then i read the reason behind it and some comments from quests and one said it write "who hasn't seen a bra" now a days they are everywhere, on TV in almost any store we go into. out on display for everyone to see. so why not on are arm? it is a wonderful idea. i have never know anyone that has had breast cancer but i have seem some ladies out and about that made me want to cry. i support awarness 100% and anything that will help these ladies battle a little easier. i also think its a great idea to make and sell these and giving the money made to the cause. You go girls!

What a fantastic idea. I love finding new & interesting things to make & this place is just full of them. Thankyou for your idea. Gives me all sorts of ideas to raise money for the breast cancer assoc. here in Australia. Thanks again

LOVE THIS!!! I'm going to make a hot pink bra purse. I'll add pink tassels & am thinking of using little pink fabric letters to add the phrase, "Save the ta-tas!" to the purse. Where's my Bedazzler????

WOW..I just started sewing again...been about 20 years...and in fact I just made a couple of purses and this is going to be the next one I make..AWESOME..my mom was a breast cancer survivor..although she is passed now..I love the idea..and will pass along to my sewing friends....

My mom is going through this, but making a bra out of it isn't called mocking? It seems kinda "in-your-face" as if saying, "Hey, I made you this because you know, you have..."
It's cute idea but I wouldn't consider this as a gift option.

Cool Idea, but I would need at least a DD sized bra to hold all my crap! LOL. And I am only an A...Also I can't see myself explaining to my kids, all their friends, and my husband why I am carrying around an embellished bra. No we don't live in the Victorian ages but somethings do need to be kept private. Sorry girls there are lots of ways to show your support for breast cancer awareness and this isn't one I would like my daughter to participate in. Like another guest said, would people really see the bra purse and think oh breast cancer awareness! I think not. You are better off wearing a T-Shirt with your message in plain english stating your cause.

lol I have to tell u I have seen quite a few of these purses. They are great! My aunt is a breast cancer survior. lol Even those of u who think this is tacky or wierd, It served its purpose. It made u think of Breast Cancer. The whole purpose of the bag. GOOD JOB!

I think this is absolutely full of good humor, while supporting (no pun intended) a very good cause! I don't know if I'm gutsy enough to make one and be caught with it out in town, but I can see this making a huge statement in the hands of a confident, fun woman. :)

I think it's a great idea. I can't wait to get some done for the boutique I'm selling things from. Until I read some of the comments on here I was foolishly under the impression that we had gone beyond Victorian times.

LOL!!(= love the idea. for those of you who think its gross, dont worry. its not even a bra any more, its been cleaned, cut and sewed. its just like making a shirt into a stuffed animal.

I love this idea, I think that people should lighten up... its only a bra... who hasnt seen one before?! People who say "eww" and "gross" are obviously too up tight to raise breast cancer awareness, very irritating, just my opinion

I'm a male directed here by a female, neither one of us feels it's inappropriate in anyway for males to see. We seen the X UR heart ads on TV for years and past the store unavoidable displays, so it's nothing we haven't seen before. Lighten up world.

Anyway, you get the idea… mixed emotions for a very “taboo” project could you say? If you want to read the TONS more comments or see the step by step photos, take a gander at it on CraftBits. Either way, I personally think its great!

Okie dokie my friends… its time to eat! I love food and boy does my waistline rat on me for it! But ya know what… I don’t care! Just more of me to love I say LMAO! I have had great fun bringing you “themed foods” weeks, that I think I am gonna keep it going! There are so many great themes we could do… its just so hard to choose! After sitting and jotting down a list of over 100 themes just off the top of my head, I have decided that this week’s theme will be… LUAU FOODS! Yes, with summer in our midst, I will be bringing you some flavor from Hawaii and some of the more popular foods you might find at a Luau (as a Luau is also a popular party theme for the summer, so why not have some authentic food right?). Now, when visiting Hawaii, you will encounter many foods names and terms that may seem quite foreign to you. This is due to the fact that Hawaii is such a melting pot of cultures from around the world, with influences from the Chinese, Filipino, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, Samoan, Thai, Vietnamese and others. But I will be trying to focus on the dishes more native to the Hawaiian people. So I hope you enjoy this upcoming week of tasty tropical treats!

Chicken Lu’au

Chicken luau won't win any prizes for presentation. It has all the visual appeal of pig slop (or worse), but you'll also notice it's one of the first pots to be scraped clean at a pa'ina. The sweetness of coconut and taro, combined with savory chicken make this one a local favorite. The dish takes its name from the Hawaiian word lū'au, describing the young taro leaves that make the bulk of the recipe.

3 lbs. taro leaves
8 c. water
1 t. sea salt
3 T. unsalted butter
2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
2 lb boneless/skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cubed
2 c. coconut milk
1 c. chicken broth

Remove the taro stems and any tough veins. Hold your hand in front of you. If your taro leaves are larger than your outstretched fingers, chop them into smaller pieces. Bring the salt and water to boil, then add the chopped taro leaves and cook for one hour, stirring occasionally. Don't rush this step! Taro contains calcium oxalate crystals which can cause a fiberglass like irritation in the mouth and throat unless cooked adequately. Drain the taro and lightly squeeze to remove excess water.

Meanwhile, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute the chopped onion until translucent but not browned, about five minutes. Add the chicken and cook another three to four minutes to lightly brown. Finally, add the coconut milk, chicken broth and cooked taro. Simmer gently for fifteen minutes until the chicken is fully cooked. Salt to taste, although in my experience you may not need more. Serve over rice.

Substitutions: You can use spinach in place of the taro, although this changes the flavor somewhat. If you use spinach, don't precook, but instead add it fresh when you add the coconut milk and broth. Another very popular option is to use squid or octopus in place of the chicken.

Serves eight to ten as a hearty side dish.

Well folks, I think that about wraps things up for today! I am gonna wander on over to the “craft station” and see what kind of trouble I can conjure up over there LOL! I hope you liked my adventures in crafting and are excited about the food theme of this week. I hope you will join me tomorrow morning for another cup of craziness and fun! Until tomorrow… HUGS!

GROOVY GRILLIN’ WEEK

Hey there kiddies! How are you doing this morning? It’s early here and I wanted to hop online and write to you before the crazy day starts. I am sad to report that either a roadside cow or a visiting person discovered the first place I was watching for berries. I was very upset. So it was back home for a sewing and cooking marathon!

I had been using plastic canvas made cow canisters when that was my theme, but now I need something different. Having never seen any lemon canisters, I decided to take this old storage container (for now at least) and spray glue some of those cut out lemons on the sides to match the room. This is just temporary but I thought it turned out pretty cute. I put all my teabags in it and placed it on the shelf by the window.

Remember that Madison’s room is one of the 6 ongoing projects… well today I made 2 complete curtain sets and the closet drape set. Those things were long! 86 inches!! I didn’t realize how tall her windows and closet were til I measured LOL! I have a few things left to do, but I am hoping to have everything ready to redo her room by the end of the week! And it’s a good thing I am almost done too… because I am almost out of fabric! In making all the things for her room, I have eliminated 2 brand new 12 yard bolts… I have maybe 4 yards left!

When you are working with the little black music notes steadily, you tend to go cross-eyed and start seeing spots LOL! So in between each item, I took a break and sewed other things because I value my eyesight LMAO! One of the things I worked on was the BC quilt. I got 4 more rows added to the length of the quilt. I figure 5 on each side of the center will make it about 6.5 to 7 ft. long. Haven’t decided how wide to make it yet. But isn’t it turning out so pretty? I already have 2 offers to buy it for $300 each! Anyone wanna try to outdo them? LMAO! What happens if I just want to keep it?? Oh decisions, decisions!

Another thing I made in between the music note stuff was this purse. Recognize the fabric? Yep, it was the scrap that was left in the green tote after I made my “casino scrub” the other night LOL! Working hard on the fabric challenge!! Anyways, I think this is so spiffy cool looking! I wanna keep this too!

I also made a couple of cell pouches out of the scraps that were left after the purse! I think I might put one for sale with the purse and then one by itself. Not sure yet. Either way, after making these, I totally eliminated this fabric! WOOHOO! Another one bites the dust!

The whole time I am sewing I am also cooking. It was experimental night LOL! First I boiled some chicken legs and once they cooled I deboned them. I added them with some mushroom soup, some cooked rotini pasta, some broccoli, milk, cheese, etc and made a casserole. It was quite yummy actually!

Large Elbow macaroni, a jar of Ragu Double cheese sauce, and some ground meat made for some homemade Cheeseburger macaroni. Hamburger helper ain’t got NOTHIN’ on homemade! LOL! DS14 ate that whole pan almost!

I had some boneless pork that I think sliced and marinated that and some short ribs in some teriyaki sauce. Baked the ribs and stir-fried the boneless with some veggies I had prepped and froze for stir-fry. Placed that over a bed of thin noodles which were sauced with teriyaki as well and OMG drool central!

Behold the Valentine’s Day chicken legs as the kids call them LOL! Actually they are Raspberry Pecan chicken legs. (I told you I was experimenting!!) I peeled the skin off some chicken legs and marinated them for over 2 hours in a Ken’s Fat Free dressing (Raspberry Pecan) in the fridge. I crushed about a cup or 2 of pecans and sprinkled them on top and baked them. They were absolutely superb if you can get past the fact they are pink LOL!

I also made some cinnamon apple dijon short ribs and OMG it smelled like a fresh baked apple pie in the house! I took a second package of short ribs and put them in a bag. Now when I had bought some of those clearanced salad kits, they had an Apple Dijon vinaigrette that I didn’t use at the time, but merely stuck in the fridge for use at a later date. Today was that date! And everyone knows apples and pork are a nice pairing, so I figured- Let’s Play! WOW am I glad I did! I poured the dressing packets and the last of my apple cider vinegar I had (maybe a ¼ cup max) and shook it up and placed the ribs in it to marinate. About an hour or so later, I diced up some apple slices. I put the ribs in the pan. The diced apples on top of the ribs, and poured the marinade over all of it. Then I said HMMM… apples like cinnamon so lets try it! Oh gee was everyone in the house about to gnaw off my ankles in wait! LOL! Sadly I have no picture because they ran off with them all too fast! But it’s definitely something they want me to make again LOL!

As you can see, I was a busy lady yesterday. I started a Tinkerbell purse out of the green crate of fabric too, but didn’t quite get it finished before it was time for bed. So, you will get to see that completed probably tomorrow if I get to finish it tonight! All I have to do is add straps and a zipper and sew it up and it will be done!

OK sew its time to craft… no I am not crafting right now… the sun isn’t even up LOL! But as you know I like to bring you my own creations as well as those of others who I think just are too cute not to mention. Now recently I brought you a doggie toy. I hope you liked it. Now for those of you who don’t have a dog, but maybe a cat (like Mom and I), I have a toy for your little feline friends today! It’s time to go kitty fishing! Make this cute little fish on a string and drive your cat bonkers! Especially when you stuff it with catnip! LMAO!

Craft Idea of the Day: Felt Fish for Kitty

Every kitten loves catnip and batting at strings! Make a quick stuffed fishy toy on a line of rickrack, and you and your kitty can play together.

Materials:

Two pieces of wool felt, each about 6 inches x 4 inches
Pinking shears
18-inch length of rickrack
Small jingle bells, feathers, or other optional decoration
Catnip (optional, but I guarantee your cat will be more interested in this toy if you use it)
Small amount polyfil stuffing
Sewing machine
Needle and thread

Directions:

Print out the template and enlarge it to the desired size. My fish was about 5 inches long by 3 inches wide.

Start by cutting two fish shapes out of your felt pieces with pinking shears. Pin the pattern piece to the felt and cut just slightly outside of the pattern piece. If you don't have pinking shears, regular scissors will work okay, too.

Stack the two fish together, wrong sides facing, and slide about 1 inch of the rickrack between the two pieces as shown. Pin in place. Sew around the sides of the fish, making sure to encase the rickrack. Do NOT sew the tail shut.

Stuff the fish body with polyfil and catnip (if using). Sew the tail shut.

Add a few jingle bells to the top of the fishy to make some noise for kitty. Hand-sew the bells securely in place, and remember to supervise your kitty while he's playing with this toy. You can also add some feathers to pique his interest.

Ok, this week I have decided (as if the title didn’t give it away LOL!) is Grill Week! With the summer coming, more and more people have cook-outs, BBQ’s, etc. Now everyone knows you can just throw on some burgers and such… nothing real “special” about that. BUT what I am going to bring you is recipes for grilling things with a little flare! Unique things that you can do to spruce up that chicken or beef strip… don’t worry, if you don’t have a grill outside, you can also use an indoor grill pan too! So let’s start off the week with a gift of grill from the $5 Dinner Mom and her awesome website! Thanks Erin! (If you haven’t signed up for her newsletter, what are you waiting for? She’s awesome and has tons of great stuff to share with you!) I made this for Mom and Dad this past Saturday for lunch and they said it was delish… and it’s a great recipe for him because the thigh is his favorite part!

Grilled Salsa Chicken

Ingredients

2 lbs bone-in chicken thighs
1 cup salsa
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper

Directions:

1. Toss the garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl.

2. Separate the skin from the thigh and spoon in some seasonings.

3. Spoon in some salsa. Repeat for all the chicken thighs that you’ll be grilling.

4. Sprinkle any remaining seasonings on top of the chicken thighs.

5. Spread any remaining salsa into the bottom of a shallow dish or baking dish and let the chicken sit on top of the salsa, so the underside of the chicken marinates and takes on a bit of the salsa flavor. Let sit for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

6. Grill.until cooked through. (I garnished with another spoonful of salsa.)

Now what would grilling week be, without some info about grills!? I just happened upon this article yesterday and thought that the timing was so appropriate and I had to share!

Best BBQ grills from Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports rates gas grills in sizes from portable tailgaters to large, free-standing models.

By ConsumerReports.org

(The Char-Broil Commercial Quantum Grill)

Mouthwatering burgers and sizzling steaks are probably the first things that come to mind when you think of grilling. But Americans are also firing up their grills to cook vegetables, fruits, pizza, and even pancakes and eggs.

So which grills are the best? We spent months cooking salmon, grilling chicken, and searing steaks on 46 gas grills. Our tests revealed recommended models that cost between $200 and $700.

We also found a few duds. Want a grill that shows you're rooting for the home team? The Team Grill Patio Series Pro bears the colors and logo of your favorite team. But our tests found that the $800 Pro is a pricey rookie that cooked unevenly and had a low overall score of 45. The futuristic-looking Solaire, $1,800, also cooked unevenly—which means lots of shuffling food around to avoid uncooked portions.

Small-sized and portable grills (shown is the Char-Broil Red)

Infrared is growing more common even among the smallest free-standing models, which cost about $150 to $500 and fit 10 to 15 burgers. The Char-Broil Red Patio 46325021 costs $270 and offers infrared searing on its main burner. Besides very even cooking at high and low temperatures, it also outdid larger grills when it came to low-temperature cooking. Portable grills to go typically lack features common on larger models, such as multiple main burners, stainless construction, and side burners. They’re also less convenient to use. But for tight spaces or tailgating, they can be all you need. The Weber Q 200 396002, $200, was the best-performing portable, and you can add a cart for use as a free-standing unit.

Medium-sized grills (shown in the Char-Broil Red)

The most popular size, these cost $200 to $900 on average and fit 16 to 30 burgers. Our top picks range in price from the Brinkmann 810-8410S, $200, to the top-rated Weber Genesis E320, $700. Both were among the best at cooking evenness. Two other recommended models, from Char-Broil and Kenmore, have infrared for searing meats at the main burner.

Large-sized grills (Shown is the Weber Genesis E320)

Looking to grill for a gang? These crowd-pleasers cost $300 to $1,000 or more and can fit 30 or more burgers. All those we recommended have stainless-steel or coated cast-iron grates and side burners. The Brinkmann 810-1575-W, sold at Walmart, has five main burners and an infrared rotisserie. At $380, it costs less than most grills this size. The Char-Broil Commercial Quantum 463247310, $500, offers infrared cooking, which uses heated surfaces to radiate intense heat to food, not the air, making it good for searing.

Ok everybody, I have to skidaddle quick like today! Gotta take mom to her first therapy appointment today at 9am! So, I hope you enjoyed the blog and I am gonna get dressed, get the kids off to school, and get on down the road! Ya’ll take care and I will meet you back here tomorrow, ok? Until then… HUGS!

THE PASSING OF PIZZA

Well howdy ya’ll! What’cha doin’ here so early this morning? LOL! I am just sitting here wishing that just once my DS14 would sleep in so I could sleep in! But alas, he doesn’t so neither do I. Got lots of topics to address this morning, so grab your cup of Java and let’s get started! No rest for the weary ya know LOL!

To my dear Tabitha- Thank you for the compliment on the quilt and I am sorry to hear of your loss. Breast cancer has effected our family as well in more than one member, so you are not alone when you say it hits home. BIG HUG to you!

To my Jean- girl you scared the tar out of me! I was worried that something happened to you. You are one of the reasons I started this blog in the first place, so I owe a lot of the “success” to you! Don’t you dare desert me! LMAO.

And to my Mom and Dad- Dad, thanks for being a good sport about the “big head” thing! And mom, don’t worry… in time we will get all of your things replaced that you lost from the storm. Just like you just put out your magnets the other day… one thing at a time and things will slowly get back to “normal”.

I got some great parents… wouldn’t you all agree? Speaking of parents, remember I told you (and mom did too) about his big hands and that I was gonna try to take a picture? Well check it out! Here is my Dad’s hand on a standard 10 ½ in. dinner plate! Crazy big huh?! Sadly I have his “moose hands” (as he calls them) too! I wear a 11.5-12 MAN’S ring on my ring finger!! It makes tiny tedious work really bothersome sometimes!

Look it’s a super yummy crazy omelet for dinner! OMG they just sounded good and I had a few veggies in the fridge that needed to be used up (some green onions, jalapenos, etc.) that I diced up and used in the “Omelet bar”. I had small bowls with different stuff in it and each person picked what they wanted in theirs. DD picked just a simple cheese and sausage omelet. DS18 wanted all the veggies and no sausage. DH took the works! DS14… cheese. And for me? Sausage, cheese, jalapenos, and pickled Mediterranean garlic! OMG! I’m drooling again just thinking about it!

We found this little Italian lady at the Home & Garden Show my mom and I went to in Galveston. She was selling different things she made and one of them was this jar of roasted pickled garlic cloves. DS18 says they sound really nasty but they taste really good. And boy is he right! They are super crazy good! See I have this love affair with garlic and for finding a way to eat the clove and nothing but the clove is garlic euphoria for me! Her name was “Mother Teresa” and you should check her out on the web at Mother Teresa’s Fine Foods and see all the things she has to offer! I highly recommend the garlic and mom tried the mushrooms and she liked those too!

Here you see another purse package I made last night from this very pretty pansy fabric. This was really the only thing I “completed” last night. I started on all the curtains and closet drapes for Madison’s room too. I plan on having everything sewn for her room by the middle of the week and putting it up and surprising her while she is at school LOL! She amazed me and her room was clean when I came home! OMG I was shocked… only having to tell her once to get it done?! Let me mark this day on the calendar LOL!

Graduation is coming up in a couple of weeks and guess what Madison wants for some of her friends? Yep you guessed it, candy bouquets. This is one of the types I made last year for some of the band kids that left us LOL. I plan on making more of these this year too. I also used a small gift box as the base that I found at Party City for some other ones… just depends on what kind of Graduation goodies I can find this year.

Alright, I want to take a moment and address a food theme that was brought to my attention… CARNIVAL foods. Now, I COULD do a “healthy”version of carnival foods, but honestly… why on Earth would you want to mess with sheer perfection?!? The whole purpose of carnival foods is to indulge in something fun and delicious. Just like you don’t ride the ferris wheel everyday or play games to win a big stuffed animal you really don’t need cluttering up your house… its just fun! I mean if you wanted to, you could substitute the hot dogs and corn dogs with tofu dogs or turkey links. You could have garden veggie burgers instead of the greasy hamburgers, fry some broccoli instead of tater tots, use wheat instead of the white flour for a funnel cake and not put the powder sugar on the top (use honey or agave nectar instead), etc. But like I said, WHY would you want to LOL! In my book kids, there are a few things you just don’t tamper with… and this is one of them! NO WAY am I upsetting the Carnival Gods by tampering with the yummy deliciousness we call the Funnel Cake… see even the name says enjoyment! F-U-N-nel cake! You want healthy at a carnival, eat a caramel APPLE LOL! There’s your “healthy” FRUIT for ya! LMAO

Ok, so I hear you asking… what is on the schedule for today? Well once the gang wakes up, after breakfast I am thinking about taking a ride… scout out the berry patches (remember to bring the wading boots LOL). With luck, we will be picking some berries! After that, we’re gonna come back and I am gonna sew like crazy! I got lots of things I want to get done today! Gonna work on Madison’s stuff, work on the BC quilt, work out of that green crate, etc. The Ronald McDonald crayon bags are kinda on hold until I get some more quilt backing as I don’t have any big enough to use… its all little pieces. BUT when payday and the next JoAnn’s coupon comes my way, I’ll get back on that like white on rice! LOL!

Alright, now its time to get crafty. Father’s Day is coming up soon, so I saw this idea on one of my favorite sites and I thought how great this would be for all the mom’s with little people out there who need a gift. Its recycling, its homemade, its absolutely perfect!

Craft Idea of the Day: Father's Day First Aid Kit

Make a great first aid kit for Dad on Father's Day from old lunch boxes.

Approximate Time: 30 minutes or less (allow for drying time of paints and glue)

Supplies:

Lunch box
Photo copies of pictures, magazine clip art, etc
Mod podge glue
Brushes for applying mod podge glue
Spray paint color of choice
Clear Spray Paint to seal finished item
Inside first aid articles (band aids/alcohol/tape etc)

Instructions:

First clean your lunch box well with soap and water and remove any old stickers or label that is on them.

Then close up your lunch box and spray paint its outside exterior with your color of choice. We used white.

We left the inside its original purple color.

After the box has dried then gather any photo copies you have made from your favorite photos of dad or dad and child and any other clip art you like from magazines.

Decoupage those on the box first brushing the mod podge glue to the back of the papers then place your clip art down to the box and brush glue on top of the clip art. Smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles you have with your fingers. Mod podge will look milky but will dry clear.

Let dry completely then spray paint box with 2 coats of clear spray paint to seal it.

Add contents inside and present to Dad on Father's Day. Great for dad to keep in his garage/car/boat for any first aide treatment he may need.

We used our clip art theme of shop tools for our decoupage and added a picture of them to the center of a cross shape with a red cross shape behind it and added the text words around it, then just put on other tool clip art to the other side of the lunch box.

You could use any theme you like; such as fishing, golfing, gardening, etc.

Ok girls and boys, today is a sad day as it’s the last day of the “Unique Pizza Week”. We are gonna end it with a bang… a big Sunday breakfast pizza for your pleasure. My family LOVES this pizza fresh baked on a weekend morning. So guess what I am making this morning? Yep… a big steaming…

Breakfast Pizza

Ingredients

1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent rolls
1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 cup frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
3 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Unroll crescent dough and place on a greased 12-in. pizza pan; press seams together and press up sides of pan to form a crust. In a skillet, brown sausage over medium heat; drain and cool slightly.

Sprinkle sausage, hash browns and cheddar cheese over crust. In a bowl, beat eggs, milk and pepper; pour over pizza. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Bake at 375 degrees for 28-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

Well kids, that’s all the time we have today. Its time for me to go make the house smell like breakfast pizza and have the aroma wake the gang up from their sweaty slumbers LMAO. Tomorrow I will start a new theme of food for the week for you to enjoy (and thanks to everybody for the suggestions!) but you have to visit again tomorrow to find out the theme LOL! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you drop in again tomorrow for more sweet treats and exciting adventures. HUGS!
